BEN TRE CITY — Farmers in Ben Tre City are increasing visibility and boosting sales by bringing their products directly to consumers through Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
Bùi Hoàng Trọng, who sells ornamental plants in Vĩnh Thành Commune, Chợ Lách District, receives 30 to 40 orders a day through his YouTube channel.
He said his family used to face difficulties because they relied on traders to buy the plants and transport them to other provinces.
But he said a new path opened up for the family in 2019 when his son began posting photos of their products on Facebook and orders began to come in.
They now sell 7,000 to 8,000 ornamental plants a year, with more than 60 percent of sales coming through social media platforms.
Dang Văn Dũng, an almond tree seller in Hưng Khánh Trung B Commune, Chợ Lách District, said he sells about 10,000 almond trees a year for VND100,000-300,000, with 80 percent sold through social media and the rest through traders.
Recording videos and sharing them on social media is an important aspect of his sales activities.
He said that while some farmers have their own channels, others seek their help to shoot and post videos to boost sales.
Livestreaming sales of ornamental plants is becoming increasingly popular, allowing young people like Li Huangchen to easily earn a stable income.
Lê Hồng Ánh, owner of Ánh Cái Mơn Garden in Chợ Nghĩa District, said he works with live streamers like Tấn to sell his plants.
Nguyen Van Ban, chairman of the province’s Farmers Association, said farmers in the province have recently started using social media and e-commerce platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, YouTube and TikTok to sell their products directly, with good results.
In Chợ Lách district, flowers and ornamental plants are available all year round, with 50% of sales through online channels.
Local authorities regularly organize training programs to help farmers take advantage of e-commerce.
