Ho Chi Minh City – Chu Lai Port has opened new shipping routes to major ports in India, China and other Asian countries.

The expansion and diversification of its international routes have consolidated Chu Lai Port’s position as an import and export connection hub for the central and Western Highlands regions.

The MTT SAISUNEE, operated by Royal Caribbean International Ltd. and sailing under the Malaysian flag, made its first stop at Chu Lai Port on August 28, marking the official launch of the direct route to India.

It exports auto parts, machinery components, fruits, household goods, furniture and textiles to India from enterprises in Tam Thăng Industrial Park, THACO Chu Lai (Quang Nam Province) and VSIP Industrial Park (Quang Ngai Province).

Founded in Thailand in 1979, Royal Caribbean Line is one of Asia’s leading shipping companies.

The company currently owns and operates 49 container ships sailing to 69 destinations in India and other countries in Asia and the Middle East.

RCL’s fleet has a total capacity of nearly 79,000 TEUs and complies with all international safety and environmental protection standards.

Initially, Chulai Port will operate a three-times monthly Xiamen (China)-Chulai-Port Klang (Malaysia)-Chennai-Kolkata-Kattupalli (India) route in partnership with Royal Caribbean International.

The partnership provides customers with a variety of cost-optimised shipping options, while promoting import and export markets in the Midlands and Western Highlands regions.

Enriching routes and improving service capabilities

As an important import and export gateway in the central region and a cargo transshipment hub in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia’s Central Highlands, Chu Lai Port is strengthening cooperation with international shipping companies (SITC, CMA CGM, ZIM, RCL…) to develop intra-Asia routes directly to China, South Korea and Japan, as well as trans-Pacific routes to the American and European markets.

With the opening of direct routes to major Indian ports such as Chennai, Kolkata, Kattupalli, Nhava Sheva and Mundra, Chu Lai Port will provide the best transportation solutions to meet the import and export needs of enterprises in the region and facilitate Vietnamese products to enter the South Asian market via India.

In the future, businesses in the central region will be able to export and import goods to India through Chulai Port without having to transship to ports in the north and south of the country, greatly saving time and costs.

“We are committed to investing and upgrading infrastructure across the board, and using information technology in port operations to improve service quality,” said Phan Van Koc, director of Chu Lai Port Authority.

“This will increase connectivity with global shipping lines and international shipping companies while attracting more import and export cargoes to pass through the port.”

Chulai Port strengthens development of direct shipping routes to India

Thanks to the addition of a series of new routes and the continuous expansion of customer network, Chu Lai Port’s cargo volume is expected to increase by more than 40% in 2024 compared to 2023.

In the future, Chu Lai Port will continue to promote cooperation with international shipping companies to increase the operating frequency of ships, while building and putting into use a 50,000-ton terminal to accommodate large ships and meet growing demand.

It will also expand the capacity of berths, warehouses and transport vehicles, and focus on developing commodities with high export growth potential, such as agricultural and forestry products and minerals from the Central Highlands, Laos and Cambodia.

In addition to solutions to improve service quality, Chu Lai Port is also streamlining processes and procedures, optimizing systems, and gradually achieving its goal of becoming an international transshipment hub.
