Southeast Vietnam Promotes High-Quality Development of Supporting Industries

As a key economic region with robust industrial growth, Southeast Vietnam’s supporting industries play a pivotal role in advancing the economic structure toward industrialization and modernization. This not only helps boost the contribution of the processing and manufacturing sectors to the regional economy but also accelerates the modernization of economic industries. To this end, local governments across the region have implemented various measures to foster the development of supporting industries.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, development goals for supporting industries have been established in response to both national socio-economic development trends and global dynamics, with the primary aim of meeting the demands of domestic industries. According to the province’s Department of Industry and Trade, supporting industries account for approximately 50% of the province’s industrial production, with an annual output value reaching VND 150 trillion (about $6.25 billion). For the 2021-2025 period, Ba Ria-Vung Tau has focused on deepening industrial development by integrating environmental protection with industrial advancement, positioning itself as a model province with a particular emphasis on supporting industries.

Similarly, supporting industries in Ho Chi Minh City have consistently played a leading role in the city’s economic development. In 2023, these industries accounted for nearly 20% of the city’s GDP. Supporting industries are crucial to the city’s transition towards a modernized economic structure, contributing to higher labor productivity, enhanced competitiveness, and increased value addition. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, noted that over the years, the city has created favorable conditions for local industrial enterprises to collaborate with multinational corporations, facilitating the transfer of technology and production management expertise. This has enabled the gradual modernization of domestic production and integration into the global supply chain.

To further promote the development of supporting industries, Ba Ria-Vung Tau has launched several initiatives during the 2021-2025 period. These include infrastructure development and investment attraction projects, aimed at boosting local supporting industries. Additionally, the province has focused on enhancing service capacity and human resources to support the long-term growth of the sector, while also strengthening the linkages between foreign and local enterprises within the supply chain.

Ho Chi Minh City, on the other hand, has implemented its own supporting industry development plan for 2024-2025, which prioritizes investment support for supporting industry enterprises and market expansion. The city will expand its supporting industry product exhibition center and organize trade fairs and promotional activities to connect supply and demand for supporting industry products. Moreover, Ho Chi Minh City is actively fostering the development of the microchip industry, paving the way for its participation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its ambitions to build a smart city. At the same time, the city is working to enhance human resource quality to meet the demands of the supporting industry manufacturing sector. It continues to support businesses in resolving issues related to land use for production.
